Kelvis White, Bob Jones Head Coach, Named To North All-Star Coaching Staff
MADISON- Kelvis White is looking for big things to happen in 2021 for the Bob Jones Patriots football team as the head coach enters his second season at the lead position. With 13 starters coming back off last year’s 3-7 squad, White knows experience and talent will provide victories for the Class 7A Pats.
On a personal level, White is already feeling good about 2021 as he has been chosen to be among the coaching staff for the North team in the annual North-South All-Star Game scheduled for Dec. 17 at the University of South Alabama’s (USA) Hancock Whitney Stadium.
“It’s a huge honor to be selected to coach the North All-Stars in the big game,” said White.
The North head coach will be Richie Busby of the Helena High Huskies at the 63rd annual contest with White among the six assistant coaches assigned to the game. Those assistants include former James Clemens head coach Wade Waldrop who this season moved to Florence High after eight seasons with the Jets. Additional coaches on the staff include Phil Phillips (Oneonta), John Ritter (Russellville), Scott Martin (Ohatchee) and Bruce Breland (Victory Christian).
“I’m looking forward to working with Coach Busby and the rest of the coaching staff along with the awesome student-athletes who will represent the North squad,” said White.
The South won last December 28-20 and now holds a 32-29-2 edge in the series that dates back to 1948. The All-Star Game is the AHSAA’s longest running all-star contest and was played annually at Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium through 1984. The game was discontinued from 1985 through 1997 before it was revived as the showcase event as part of the North-South All-Star Sports Week.
Bob Jones kicks off its season as part of the AHSAA Kickoff Classic against Dothan on Friday, Aug. 20 at 7:00 p.m. The Kickoff Classic will be played in Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl.
