Chargers women’s soccer will open season Sept. 2 against cross-town rival Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE – The Gulf South Conference has unveiled its 2021 women’s soccer preseason release, announcing the preseason all-conference team, the league’s top newcomers, and the predicted order of finish as selected by the GSC’s head coaches.

On the list of the conference’s top new arrivals, The University of Alabama in Huntsville is represented by both Helena Gonzalez and Emily Labus. Gonzalez is a junior forward who hails from Cambrils, Spain, while Labus is a freshman defender from Kennesaw in the Peach State.

Mississippi College has been picked to win the league according to the league’s head coaches, while Lee has been selected second. The rest of the top five is rounded out by No. 3 Montevallo, Delta State in fourth, and West Florida at No. 5. Valdosta State is in sixth place and is followed by seventh-ranked West Alabama, while Christian Brothers is in eighth ahead of UAH who is No. 9. West Georgia completes the top 10.

The Chargers will open the 2021 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 2, when crosstown foe and Division I member Alabama A&M visits Charger Park. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
