UAH volleyball voted second in GSC preseason poll

HUNTSVILLE – The Gulf South Conference has unveiled its 2021 GSC Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll on Thursday morning, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was voted to finish second in the league this fall.

West Florida came out atop the league’s prognostications with 116 total points and eight first-place votes, followed by UAH in second with 107 points and two first-place nods.

The Chargers and Argonauts were joined in the top six by Montevallo in third, Auburn Montgomery in fourth, Union in fifth and Mississippi College in sixth.

West Georgia, Lee, Valdosta State, West Alabama, Shorter and Christian Brothers rounded out the seventh through 12th slots in the vote.

The GSC additionally announced its Preseason All-GSC Team, with both Sabrina Duncan and Kendall Scharbert being tabbed to the squad. Duncan and Scharbert were both GSC All-Tournament honorees in the 2021 GSC Spring Championship Series, which was won by the Chargers.

The GSC Top Newcomer list was also unveiled in Thursday’s release, which included UAH freshmen Zharia Hubbard (Quinton, Ala.) and Hailey Holshouser (Hartselle, Ala.).

UAH starts off the 2021 campaign with four matches at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall next Friday and Saturday with the UAH Invitational, presented by the Huntsville Sports Commission. Full UAH Invitational schedule available here.
