Touting its ‘better’ chicken, Slim Chickens opens in Clift Farm

MADISON – Slim Chickens, a leader in the “better chicken” segment of fast-casual restaurants, opened in Madison on Oct. 18 in Clift Farm at 8168 U.S. 72 W.

Experienced restaurateurs Alan Renfroe and Dana Price, owners of Legends Development LLC in Guntersville, operate multiple restaurant concepts throughout Alabama. They chose to add Slim Chickens to their portfolio after their first bite of the food and signed to a nine-unit restaurant deal with the brand.

Renfroe and Price believe that Slim Chickens will prosper in Madison because of the high-traffic nature and the friendly, community atmosphere. They plan to open Slim Chickens in Town Madison tentatively in December.

“We became ‘Slimthusiasts’ with our first taste of Slim Chickens’ made-to-order fresh food,” Renfroe said. “Once discovering Slim Chickens, we knew we wanted our first locations to be at Clift Farm and Town Madison.”

Along with bringing delicious fried chicken and Southern-inspired sides to Madison, Slim Chickens in Madison also will make a positive economic impact by creating 75-plus new jobs.

Since Slim Chickens’ founding in 2003, the brand has celebrated more than 125 openings in 24 states. Their overall goal is 600 restaurants by 2025.

“Our freshly made Southern dishes and homemade recipes create loyal guests who feel good about the food they’re eating. We’re proud to grow our loyal fan base into the Madison market,” Sam Rothschild, Slim Chickens’ Chief Operating Officer, said.

The hand-breaded chicken tenders are 100-percent all-natural and marinated in buttermilk. Chicken wings are perfectly fried and shaken in any of their house sauces. Other choices are the chicken club or cayenne ranch sandwiches, smokey cheddar wrap or chicken & waffles.

The 17 dipping sauces range from traditional ranch, buffalo, and honey barbecue to spicy blends of sriracha garlic, mango habanero, Korean barbecue, sweet red chili and “Inferno.” Sides include mac & cheese; cole slaw; potato salad; fries; ranch chips; fried pickles, okra or mushrooms; and a side salad. Along with milkshakes, dessert recipes rotate and are served in Mason jars.

At Slim Chickens, Southern hospitality is not just for the South — everyone, everywhere can appreciate honest food to socialize with friends and neighbors, Renfroe said.
