Sparkman’s Lisa Ivey Named Alabama Bowling Coach Of The Year
HARVEST- Success has become a way of life for the Sparkman High bowling program. For the last three consecutive seasons the Senators have qualified for the AHSAA State Tournament with both the boys and girls teams claiming state titles for the 2020-2021 season. Now, the program can add yet another title in its storied history as head coach Lisa Ivey has been named the Alabama Boy’s and Girl’s State Bowling Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
The award is given to a coach for their coaching performance, community involvement and overall coaching philosophy.
Ivey, who also currently coaches girls golf for Sparkman, has also coached boys varsity soccer and middle school softball. Her bowling squad, currently undefeated in the 2021-2022 season, took both state championships last season as the girls were undefeated and the boys lost one match throughout the campaign. In the 2020 season, her Sparkman boys finished runner-up at the State Championships.
Ivey has been involved with numerous special school projects during her tenure at Alabama’s fourth largest high school. Most recently with the National Honor Society she spearheaded several campaigns that have helped in various aspects of the community. Those projects included raising $24,000 for the Autism Society, raising school supplies and money for Enterprise High School after a devastating EF-4 tornado ripped through the South Alabama community in March 2007, taking home the honor of winning a countywide can food drive and leading the bowling team in its efforts to assist with bowlers of special need students.
Ivey has also won the Walter Jones Foundation award and received the Partnership for Drug Free Community Teacher of the Year.
