Decorated veteran Michael Brown to receive Helping a Hero home

MADISON – A groundbreaking ceremony on Feb. 1 will lead to a new home in Madison for a wounded veteran.

The new home has resulted from the collaboration among musical artist Lee Greenwood, best known for his anthem, “God Bless the USA”; local builder/developer Louis and Patti Breland, who is constructing Clift Farm and Town Madison; and Meredith Iler, founder of the Helping a Hero Home organization.

This home for SSG Michael Brown is one of two Helping a Hero homes awarded by Louis and Patti Breland at the “All-Star Salute to Lee Greenwood” held at the Von Braun Center on Oct. 12, 2021.

The groundbreaking will start at 11 a.m. The home, located at 100 Hudson River Drive in Madison, is part of the Crossings at River Landing. Follow directional signs to the lot.

Brown and his wife are parents of a 15-year-old daughter. In 2007, Brown’s Military Police Unit was deployed to Mosul, Iraq.

Tragically, a grenade hit Brown. The charge burned through the truck’s armor and completely severed his left foot above the ankle. Ultimately, he lost his leg.

Brown received numerous medals, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Workers are adapting his new home to have needed features that will restore his independence.

Individuals who plan to attend the groundbreaking can RSVP to patriots@helpingahero.org.
