Teenagers rule in ‘13 THE MUSICAL’ by Lyrique Music Productions

HUNTSVILLE – In what has become a tradition, Lyrique Music Productions or LMP is reprising a favorite show with a one-of-a-kind cast . . . They’re all teenagers.

“This is the third time that LMP has presented ‘13 THE MUSICAL,’ every five years since 2012. The show has become a hilarious and beloved rite of passage for local theater teens,” publicist Amanda Homelvig said. “13 THE MUSICAL” features an all-teenage cast from Huntsville, Madison County and Limestone County.

Jason Robert Brown, a three-time Tony award winner, composed the music.

Carly Parker, a junior at James Clemens High School, is serving as Director. Broadway veteran Luz Ladrillono is working as Director Advisor for Parker.

The musical is a funny and exciting story about the struggles of a 13-year-old. “13 THE MUSICAL” is the only Broadway show to feature a cast consisting entirely of teenagers.

Music Director Nathan Solomon is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville with bachelor’s degrees in computer science (and Top Scholar) and music, emphasizing jazz. Jackson Love is assisting as Music Director Advisor.

Lead Choreographer Haylee Benson teaches at The Dance Company in Madison and previously choreographed LMP’s “American Idiot” and “Matilda.” Other youth leadership includes Assistant Director Lee Bennett, junior at James Clemens; Youth Choreographer Harley Dauma, sophomore at Bob Jones High School; and Stage Director Bryson Hewell, junior at James Clemens.

“We’re excited for the community to see this hilarious coming-of-age story about becoming a teenager — something most of us can relate to,” LMP Board President Kenneth Lones said. “It’s funny, exhilarating and has lessons to be learned — just like middle school.”

Show dates for “13 THE MUSICAL” will be Feb. 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. and on Feb. 26 and 27 at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Von Braun Center Playhouse in Huntsville. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for students. For reserved seats, visit LMPstage.org or call 256-417-0593. Active military personnel and veterans will receive a 10-percent discount at the box office with ID.

For group sales, email Stephanie Thorson at LMPboxofficeHSV@gmail.com.

The public can enjoy preview performances of “13 THE MUSICAL” at Bridge Street Town Centre in the Belk Courtyard on Feb. 12-13 at 2 p.m., weather permitting.

Founded in 2010, Lyrique Music Productions, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, presents community theater production to educate young artists and provide opportunities through musical theater productions and master classes with expert professionals from Broadway.

Young artists learn the production process, including directing, choreography, performing, technical design, costuming and make-up. LMP consistently brings newer, often cutting-edge productions to North Alabama.
