Master Gardeners relocate Spring Plant Sale to A&M’s Agribition Center

NORMAL – Master Gardeners of North Alabama Inc. once again are presenting their annual Spring Plant Sale, but the sale will have a different venue this year.

For 2022, the Master Gardeners have relocated their Spring Plant Sale to the Agribition Center at Alabama A & M University. The center’s address is 4925 Moore’s Mill Road in Huntsville.

The sale’s new location is larger than the previous site and will accommodate more plants from which shoppers can decide on the best selections for their yards and gardens.

The plant sale will be open on April 22-23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Shoppers can get your garden growing with annuals, perennials, vegetables, shrubs and more,” Soozi Pline said. Pline is serving as Publicity Chair for the sale.

Numerous Master Gardener experts will be available throughout the day to answer questions about gardening procedures, lawn growth and soil amendments. Master Gardeners also will offer free testing of soil pH (remember to bring a soil sample from home).

The “Ask a Master Gardener” feature allows individuals to learn solutions to many problems with growing plants and solutions for plant pests.

The sale’s inventory will be substantial and include traditional favorites and new specimens that a home gardener can groom for this year’s flower beds and pots. Examples of perennial flowers are day lilies and canna lilies in several hues, along with Crinum lilies. Easy-to-grow ground covers and ornamental grasses are an excellent alternative to sparse patches of grass in the lawn.

Ready-to-plant shrubs and vines will begin to grow quickly in the spring garden. Hard-to-find varieties of hostas and ornamental grasses will be available.

All proceeds will benefit the Master Gardeners of North Alabama’s community service outreach.

The gardeners sponsor several projects in the community. They conduct demonstrations for establishing and amending compost, growing a vegetable garden to promote various varieties and offering a mental breather with horticultural therapy.

In addition, the gardeners maintain a greenhouse at Morris Elementary School in Huntsville. They often present lectures and workshops at sites in Madison, especially Dublin Park.

Master Gardeners of North Alabama Inc. have supported the Alabama Cooperative Extension System since 1998. The group is a fully qualified 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
