MudRun promises messy good time for a great cause

MADISON – If your mother ever told you to stop playing in the mud, here is your chance to ignore that advice. The Annual Mustang MudRun 5K will be held at Madison Academy on April 16. Runners can expect to slip, slide, climb, jump, slog and swing their way to the finish — all while getting really dirty.

Even better, participants will gain a sense of fulfillment in helping people in need. The proceeds from the run go to support Madison Academy and New Futures, Inc. Homeless Shelter.

The Mustang MudRun 5K, presented by Madison Academy, is a premiere Mud Run offered in North Alabama. “The 3.1 mile obstacle course will challenge participants with more than 22 obstacles along and through Indian Creek and the adjacent wooded areas on Madison Academy’s campus,” said Terri Speir, Mustang Mud Run Co-Director. “It’s very messy, and very fun. We will be running multiple heats, including one for elite racers and an open heat for racers ages 12 and up.”

Packet pickup will be held on April 15 from noon to 5 p.m. at Madison Academy. On run day, packets will be available at the registration area.

The run on April 16 will open at 8:45 a.m. and close at 11 a.m. In recent years, the Mud Run has attracted an average of 250 race participants, plus 60 volunteers.

The 5K is open to anyone at least 12 years old. Runners can expect to slip, slide, climb, jump and swing their way to the finish. Entrants will run multiple heats, including one for elite racers and an open heat for 12-years-old and older. (mustangmudrun.com)

The course has obstacles that will challenge the runners to use strategy and strength. The obstacles include the Tarzan Twist, Leap of Faith, Mud Pits, Walls of Jericho, Grime Climb, Creek Crossing, Hole-y Moley and Swamp Sludge.

Officials urge participants to attempt the obstacles; however, they understand that individuals may have a limitation and won’t complete the obstacle.

In addition, six-year-olds and older can participate in the Lil’ Muddy 1K heat. Parents who run in an earlier heat can run again for free with their ‘Lil’ Mudders.’

“The Lil’ Muddy 1K obstacle run is for all of the awesome future mud runners aged 6-11,” Speir said. “Lil’ Muddy racers will have a fun filled course with challenging obstacles and plenty of mud!”

All participants will receive a T-shirt and a medal.

Registration fee for individuals is $55. For Lil’ Muddy, fee is $25. The family pack of four will receive a $5 discount per registration. Parking fee is $10 per vehicle, cash only.
