‘Elixir of Love’ next show for Opera Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE – Opera Huntsville is in rehearsal to present a fully-staged production of Donizetti’s “Elixir of Love,” a hilarious opera in two acts.

The venue will be the Von Braun Center Playhouse, 700 Monroe St. SW in Huntsville on April 22-24.

Huntsville star and MET performer Brandie Sutton will portray Adina in this three-performance run of the wildly famous and comedic opera. In the show, Nemorino, a young villager, is in love – but unhappily – with the beautiful farm owner Adina. Thinking Adina is beyond his reach, Nemorino tries a magic love potion in hopes to win her affection. Will the confusion lead to love?

Additional cast members include the Glimmerglass artist and stunning tenor Camron Gray, mezzo Rachel Gibson as Dr. Dulcamara, soprano Joylyn Rushing as Giannetta and baritone Chris Farley as Belcore.

Music Director Roberto Burton is leading a chamber orchestra. Chorus Master Shane Kennedy is conducting the chorus.

Sierra Hammond is serving as Production Manager.

Performers will present the opera in Italian with English supertitles. The show runs two hours and 15 minutes. Guests will have an intermission.

On opening night, April 22, Dr. Julie Moore-Foster with Oakwood University voice faculty and Stage Director Joey Frangieh will give a pre-performance lecture at 6 p.m. To buy tickets and for more information, visit operahuntsville.org/lelisir-damore.
