Bob Jones 5K Color Run to benefit Special Education Wing

MADISON – Individuals who like the sport of running will have a fun and entertaining option with the Bob Jones 5K Color Run. In addition, the runners will be assisting with fundraising to furnish the new wing for students in special education.

Start time for the Color Run will be 3 p.m. on May 1 on the Bob Jones campus. The event will start on the track on the school’s east side.

Organizers are encouraging residents to help the faculty and student body welcome the newest Patriots when the students in special education start classes in their new classrooms.

All proceeds from the Bob Jones 5K Color Run will help in buying supplies or ‘sensory items’ to stage a welcoming environment for the new students on campus.

The special education wing will accommodate the school district’s east Madison feeder pattern. Madison Board of Education approved a bid for $6.89 million to construct the new facility. At that meeting, Frank Nola with Nola VanPeursem Architects gave a brief overview of the project and said efforts will be made to minimize traffic disruptions.

The wing’s location will stand on the campus’ north side by the bus loop.

Included in this construction package, a new marquee with electronic sign board will be installed at Bob Jones’ main entrance at 650 Hughes Road. The existing stone marker for Bob Jones at the Hughes Road entrance will be moved near the north entrance off Eastview Drive.

Improvements to lighting will be completed throughout the school’s exterior. Landscaping will be improved on the campus’ grounds.
