Home Place Park awaits ribbon cutting on Thursday

MADISON – The City of Madison, Madison Visionary Partners or MVP and Rotary Club of Madison will celebrate the re-opening of Home Place Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 23.

The event will start at 6 p.m. The park’s location is 100 Shorter St. in downtown Madison and the former site of the neighborhood park for Home Place subdivision.

The park features a performance pavilion and amphitheater-style seating, along with a picnic area and walking path. Renovations to the park have added walkability and event space for downtown Madison.

“The re-imagining of Home Place Park not only enhances downtown Madison’s footprint but offers an opportunity for residents to gather for community events. We hope families across Madison will enjoy the green space for years to come,” Mayor Paul Finley said.

The improvements will allow residents and visitors to enjoy theatrical and musical performances, along with other events. Ample parking is available at the nearby Madison City Schools Stadium. To accommodate food trucks, the park also features a parallel parking bay with electrical hook-ups along the south side of Shorter Street.

Rotary Club of Madison assisted in the funding of the pavilion with a $50,000 donation.

“The Rotary Club of Madison is proud to support this community project. Our members enthusiastically signed off on this signature project because we knew this would transform the park into something special,” Peter Alvarez said. Alvarez is President of Rotary Club of Madison’s Foundation.

During MVP’s listening tour, residents voiced their wish for more community green space along with arts and cultural events.

“This is a perfect example of how public and private entities can come together to create something impactful for our community. Madison Visionary Partners is proud to connect people who care with causes that matter to enrich the quality of life in Madison,” MVP Executive Director Melanie Thornton said.

Major supporters of Home Place Park include AMT Integrated Solutions, Redstone Federal Credit Union and Signalink.

“Concerts in the Park” opened at Home Place Park with Calypso Vision on June 16. Groove is slated to entertain on July 21. The Zooks will perform on Aug. 18.

Concert admission is free for the concerts, which start at 6 p.m. on Thursdays.
