Tommy Overcash appointed to Madison Board of Education

MADISON – A former City Council member, Tommy Overcash now is serving with Madison Board of Education.

Overcash was appointed to the school board to fill the vacancy left by Greg Hulsey, who resigned due to a job relocation to Birmingham.

Before his appointment, Tommy was elected to Madison City Council, District 5 for four terms. He served eight times as Council President.

Overcash was born and reared in Starkville, Miss. His parents, Jean and Martha Overcash, were educators. His father worked as a horticulture professor at Mississippi State University. His mother was an English teacher in the Starkville City School System.

Overcash holds a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration in engineering management from Florida Institute of Technology.

He works as a Senior Software/Systems Engineer with Willbrook Solutions, working at NASA on the SLS Program.

Tommy and his wife Debbie Overcash have known each other since childhood and married in Starkville in 1980. The Overcash family moved to Madison in 1985. They were selected “Madison Family of the Year 2001.”

Tommy and Debbie have three sons and two daughters-in-law, all graduates of Madison City Schools. The Overcashes have six grandchildren.

Tommy has been an active volunteer in many church, school, scouts, sports and civic areas.

Tommy and his sons are all Eagle Scouts. Tommy also has been actively involved with Madison County and Madison City Schools systems. Tommy has been a longtime PTA member, Discovery Middle School trustee and volunteer, along with a baseball, soccer, cross country and band booster club member. Tommy has volunteered with numerous local youth sports programs.

Tommy is a member of Madison Optimist Club, Honorary Member of Rotary Club of Madison, Madison Friends of the Library, Madison Station Historical Preservation Society, Madison Arts Council, Madison Chamber of Commerce, Huntsville/Madison County Botanical Gardens, Burritt on the Mountain and Huntsville-Madison County Land Trust.

He is a graduate of the 12th Class of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County Focus Program and a graduate of Class 20 of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County.

Currently, Tommy serves on North Alabama Gas District Board, Madison Police Foundation Board and Madison on Track 2045 Advisory Committee. He previously served with Madison City Planning and Zoning Commission, Madison City Council, Huntsville-Madison County Public Library Board, Madison Industrial Development Board and Tennessee Valley BRAC Committee.

The term for the Madison Board of Education seat that Overcash has filled will end at the first of June in 2024.
