Queen’s Quest Chess Tournament attracts wide age group

MADISON – Queen’s Quest Chess Tournament, the first team and individual competition of the school year, gave a venue for many competitors to play in their first rated tournament.

Midtown Elementary School hosted the event on Nov. 19.

“Lockheed Martin returned as our sponsor with swag and 3D-printed chess sets. We appreciate their continued sponsorship of this signature event,” Ranae Bartlett said. Bartlett is Executive Director of Madison City Chess League.

Dr. Ed Nichols, Superintendent of Madison City Schools, greeted attendees. The chess crowd enjoyed coffee and cocoa from Black Dog Grounds and Sounds, along with lunch by Mei Wei.

The following paragraphs list each section’s place winners, starting with first place and continuing through tenth place:

* K-3 Championship Section — Milan Malak, Asher Allison, Annabelle Hsu, Alandra Jackson, Avyaktha Subramania, Lucas Osipychev, Charlie Saulters, Dennis Lenski, John Park, Summer Seewald and tie for tenth with Lucas He and Hannah Kuang.

Rainbow Elementary School was the first-place team in the K-3 Championship Section, followed by Heritage and Columbia elementary schools.

* K-3 Under 300 Section — Christopher Chan, Sung Cha, Wyatt Dunlap, Noah Goerlich, Lucas Li, James Plott, Thomas Burbank, Janvi Jinva, Udara Sarathchandra and tie for tenth with Abigail Finley, Griffin Kinney, Austin Pullum, Joanna He, Ronan Price, Yuheng Henri Chen, Kolten Gero and Jonathan Lam. Jenna Tait, Top Female.

Columbia claimed first place for teams, followed by Midtown Elementary School, Rainbow, Heritage and Horizon Elementary School.

* K-5 Under 300 Section — Isaac Kreusser, Esteban Jerez, Theodore Piper, Emerson Phillips, Margaret Lin, Dheeren Pammina, Andrew Tkach, Vedanth Siva, Daksh Sunil and tie for tenth with Peter Gosier, Rohin Kumar Seal, Mason Park, Jacob Kuang, John Kawamoto, Alice Zou, Abigail Barbre, Will He, Emory Howell, Sughan Manoharan, Cohen Phillips and Esinam Tettey. Alice Wu, Top Female.

Team rankings were Horizon in first place; Columbia, second; Mill Creek Elementary School, third; Heritage, fourth; and Rainbow, fifth.

* K-8 Section — Jethro Jones, Jacob New, Caden Jordan, Joseph Park, Sophia Jerez, Anna Ai, Samsara Rajbhandari, Tim Lee, Christina Yang and tie for tenth with Hudson Smith, Kate Meyer, Cooper Meyer, James Hoogstra, Laya Gowder and Shravan Balaji. Shiloh Stringer, Top Female.

In first place for teams was Discovery Middle School, followed by Liberty Middle School.

* K-12 Section — Ella Grace Kinney, Andrew Yang, Nirvana Rajbhandari, Andrew Park, Nathan Chiu, Pranaav Satheesh, Artem Starenki, Sahishnu Saha, Oviya Gowder, Aaron Chen. Rachael Ehrman, Top Female.

Bob Jones High School ranked in first place for the K-12 Division. James Clemens High School took second place.
