James Clemens And Bob Jones Shine At Redcoat Invitational Track Meet

MADISON- The track and field program at Bob Jones High again hosted its annual Redcoat Invitational with over 30 schools from across the Tennessee Valley on hand to go through the day-long event at the artificial turf track complex at the school. Bob Jones’ top rival, fellow Madison City School’s James Clemens, came to the land of the Patriots and swept the competition in both boys and girls divisions. The visiting Jets posted 161 points to win the girls and 175 points to earn the boys trophies.

Individual talents from local schools were certainly on exhibition. Junior Jordan Urrutia of Bob Jones posted three gold medals performances in the sprint races, James Clemens super junior Benjamin Thomason took home three individual first place medals while fellow Jets, Zaria Parker and Tramani Osley were tops in girls winning two gold medals each.

For Urrutia, whose younger sister, Alivia, is an outstanding member of the girls team at Bob Jones, his 10.77 in the 100-meter race tied for the best time in the state this season and his 21.86 time in the 200-meter sprint is now set as the fastest in Alabama.

Meanwhile, Thomason’s gold medal performances came in the long jump, 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles to set the pace for team trophy winning Jets. Parker’s winning times came in the 100m and 200m while Osley was tops in both the long jump and triple jump events.

The top five team scores were, Boys: 1. James Clemens 175, 2. Bob Jones 137, 3. Huntsville 119, 4. Brooks 50, 4. Decatur 50; Girls: 1. James Clemens 161, 2. Huntsville 117.5, 3. Bob Jones 89, 4. Brooks 87, 5. Buckhorn 46.
