Music at Messiah to feature The Brophy Sisters

MADISON – A concert favorite will return to share their musical talents in the season’s first performance with Music at Messiah Classical Concert Series.

“The Brophy Sisters in Concert” on Oct. 14 will start at 7 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 7740 U.S. 72 W. in Madison. “We are excited to be celebrating our tenth anniversary of Music at Messiah, having been founded in the fall of 2013,” spokesperson Meredith Kilby said.

Linnaea Brophy, a violinist, and Maeve Brophy, a pianist, will present a diverse program from the genre of classical music. Their selections will feature works by Bach, the iconic American composer Amy Beach, the soulful H. Leslie Adams and the enigmatic Sergie Prokofiev.

“This concert will be the third time that the Brophy Sisters have been featured by the series,” publicist Gretchen Perry said. Admission will be free; tickets are unnecessary. “Donations at the door will be graciously accepted.” For more information, visit musicatmessiah.org or Facebook/Music at Messiah.

“To be in the presence of an inspired performer revealing the beauty of their instrument is something that our children need to experience as they grow in our community,” Perry said. “One of the driving forces of establishing Music at Messiah in 2013 was to meet this need.”

This upcoming concert marks the 10th anniversary of Music at Messiah, which was founded in 2013 just after Messiah Lutheran Church expanded its sanctuary. “This expansion resulted in a bright, warm acoustical space and an elevated chancel — ideal for live classical music,” Kilby said.

“Our goal is to provide superb live performances of classical music in Madison and to enrich the arts in Madison,” Perry said. “We believe that there is something truly special about a live performance that cannot be matched by even the best recordings and equipment. This is especially true in an intimate setting where the acoustics of the instruments can be revealed in all their glory.”

The concert is open to all members of the community, and no tickets are required for entry. Organizers will appreciate any donations at the door. In addition, sponsorships by individuals and businesses will support the series; this dedication to the concert series will appear in all programs for upcoming concerts. A reception will follow the concert.

“The series is dedicated to enriching the cultural life of North Alabama by presenting professional and rising professional classical musicians and ensembles for the community,” Kilby said. The concerts strive to create meaningful and transformative live experiences, especially for music students and their teachers and classical music lovers.”
