Strong announces deadline to apply for service academy nominations

WASHINGTON — Congressman Dale W. Strong is encouraging all high school seniors interested in obtaining a congressional nomination to a U.S. service academy to apply prior to the Oct. 18 deadline.

“North Alabama is home to some of the brightest student leaders our nation has to offer,” said Congressman Strong. “It is my honor to nominate young men and women across the Tennessee Valley to our nation’s prestigious service academies. It takes something special to lead U.S. service members in uniform, and I’m proud so many in our district are putting their names forward.”

To apply for a congressional nomination, visit the student services page of Congressman Strong’s website. For additional information, contact the Huntsville district office at 256-551-0190.

After the Oct. 18 deadline, candidates will be notified of interview dates. Candidate interviews will be conducted at Congressman Strong’s Huntsville district office.

Congressman Strong has the privilege of nominating candidates to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
