James Clemens Indoor Track Sets National Mark: 4×800 Fastest In The Country

James Clemens Indoor Track Sets National Mark: 4×800 Fastest In The Country

BIRMINGHAM- Members of both the James Clemens and Bob Jones indoor track teams showed off with stellar performances at the Ice Breaker Indoor Track Invitational held at Birmingham’s CrossPlex. The meet featured 110 schools from Alabama and Mississippi from which 1,800 athletes participated.

James Clemens won eight medals, had 10 scoring performances, set two school records and ran the nation’s fastest time in the boys 4×800. Bob Jones had two medal winning performances where the brother sister tandem of Jordan and Alivia Urrutia took home performance medals. The senior Jordan won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94 while freshman Alivia captured a third-place medal with a time of 57.75 in the girls 400 meter.

The James Clemens distance runners had a dominating day beginning with the first event the boys 4X800 relay. The Jets won first place gold medals with the fastest time in the U.S. this year. Their time broke their school record by eight seconds and was 15 seconds ahead of the next team, Huntsville. The Jets ran a 7:56.50 leading the country’s second place squad by four seconds. The 4×800 team members included Luke Alverson (1:56.8), Cole Robinson (1:59.13), John Luke Stovall 2:02.64 and Dylan Dryer 1:57.25.

Alverson also won a gold medal with a first-place finish in the 1,600 meter in 4:21.19. Robinson also took a third-place medal in the 1,600 meter with a finish time of 4:24.55. On the girls side, Kylie Cole set a new personal best while winning the 3,200 meter with a time of 11:50.14.

The Lady Jets continued the strong team distance performance as they claimed medals in the 4×800 and the 3,200. In the 4×800, finishing in second place earning the silver medal, the Jets posted a time of 9:56.53, which is second best in Alabama. This also broke the school record. Relay members included Emma Bothern, Kayla Willett, Kylie Gero and Ella Carter.

The Jets were led in the sprints, hurdles and relays: Benjamin Thomason claimed a fourth-place medal in the 60m hurdles (8.37); 4×400 finished with a silver medal performance with a 3:33.76 with team members Ben Thomason, Isaac Pollard, Napoleon Totten and Ezion Rolingson. Erihana Johnson continued her scoring success in the 60m with a State qualifying performance of 8.03. Both the girls and boys 4×200 moved into qualifying positions. The girls featured Emma Bothern, Ella Carter, Reynna Mayers and Erihana Johnson. The boys included Johnny Ross, Ezion Rolingson, Napoleon Totten and Cymir Zeigler.

The Jets’ other medal performance and scoring performance was set by Austin Abney winning a fifth-place medal in the pole vault at 13-0.

For Bob Jones, Samual Jackson took fifth-place in the boys triple jump at 44-03 and Jasmyne Rochelle posted a height of 4-10 for a fourth-place finish in the girls high jump.
