Voters in HD10 to decide who fills unexpired term today

Polls open this morning in Madison at 7 a.m. for a special election. Voters in House District 10 will go to the polls to elect a new state representative in a special election to fill the unexpired term of now-former State Rep. David Cole.

House District 10 consists mostly of Madison, parts of Huntsville, and small parts of unincorporated areas around Madison. Madison City Councilman Teddy Powell, the GOP nominee, and Marilyn Lands, the Democrat nominee, will face off for the open seat.

Before the polls opened, Secretary of State Wes Allen relayed important reminders to voters as they prepare to vote in today’s election.

Voters are required to present a valid form of photo identification before voting at their polling place. For a list of acceptable forms of photo identification or to learn more about Alabama’s photo voter ID requirement, visit https://www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/photo-voter-id.

Voters may verify their polling location by visiting https://myinfo.alabamavotes.gov/voterview.

Secretary Allen thanks Madison County Probate Judge Frank Barger and all Madison County election officials for their hard work preparing to administer this special election.

“As Secretary of State and a former probate judge, I understand the hard work that goes into administering fair, secure, and transparent elections,” said Secretary Allen. “I want to thank Judge Barger and his team of Madison County election officials for all of the hard work they are putting in to ensuring today’s special election is run with election integrity as the top priority.”

Election results will be posted on a door or other visible location at each polling place. Cumulative election results will be posted on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website at www.AlabamaVotes.gov.
