Business, Army groups offer scholarships

MADISON COUNTY – HASBAT and the Redstone-Huntsville Chapter of AUSA are collaborating to provide two academic scholarships to high school juniors and seniors, along with college freshman, interested in a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or STEM.

Students are eligible who currently attend a local secondary school or a four-year accredited college or university in Huntsville, Madison County and the surrounding area. Each year, HASBAT awards three academic scholarships for $2,500.

The HASBAT acronym represents Huntsville Association of Small Businesses in Advanced Technology. AUSA abbreviates Association of the United States Army.

Darrell Walker, spokesperson for the AUSA/HASBAT Scholarship Committee, encourages residents “to spread the word of this awesome opportunity by sharing the scholarship announcement with your company colleagues, professional networks, alumni associations, churches and family members.”

“If you know of a student who would benefit from an award, encourage (him or her) to apply as well,” Walker said. Individuals are welcome to post the announcement of their social media pages.

For award eligibility, candidates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The student must major in a STEM-related degree or be pursuing a career in an advanced technology field in North Alabama after graduation. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen.

To access an application, visit hasbat.org/Scholarships. The candidate must submit the scholarship application to hasbat.org/awards-scholarships.

Deadline for submission is May 15. For more information, contact the HASBAT Awards & Scholarships Committee at scholarships@hasbat.org.

AUSA, a private, nonprofit and educational association, unites individuals, businesses and organizations in supporting and maintaining a robust national defense with emphasis on the U.S. Army.

Four local, small-business owners of technology companies founded HASBAT in 1993. The nonprofit organization promotes the interests of small businesses in advanced technology and supports opportunities within the federal, state and local governments.

Over the years, HASBAT has helped small businesses to navigate the Huntsville defense market. HASBAT has been involved with the Space and Missile Defense Symposium and the HASBAT Small Business Advocate for Excellence Award.
