Athletic Hall Of Fame Seeks Nominees

The Madison Record’s longtime reporter Bob Labbe is a 2014 inductee to the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame.

MADISON- The Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame has honored nearly 400 inductees to its list of special honorees, which includes coaches, athletes and contributors to local athletics. The locally run organization is currently seeking nominees from the public for its Class of 2025, which will be honored at the annual Hall of Fame Induction Banquet in April, 2025.

Nominees can be submitted by three different ways:

  • Via the Hall of Fame website: hmcahof.com
  • Via mail to PO Box 566, Huntsville, AL 35804
  • By contacting any Hall of Fame member, which are listed at the website

Deadline to enter a nominee is September 30.

Nominators are asked to provide information to support the candidate: i.e., statistics, links, clippings.

To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, candidates must:

  • Be a current or former resident of Huntsville or Madison County for ten continuous years, not counting residency on a military base or college campus
  • A nominee who performed their athletic achievement prior to moving to Huntsville or Madison County must be a resident for ten continuous years
  • A nominee must be at least 40 years of age at time of induction
  • An unretired coach or administrator must have a minimum of 25 years of service in athletics to be eligible
  • A nominee’s athletic achievements will be of prime importance, but their post-athletic lives as citizens and community contributors will be considered

Twenty different sports are represented in the Hall of Fame, as well as inductees from officiating, media, education and administration. The members include those with Huntsville connections who have excelled at the local, state, national and international levels.

For more information, contact Hall of Fame chairman Vann Pettaway (vann.pettaway@gmail.com) or board member Mark McCarter (256-508-1621 or markfmccarter@gmail.com).
