The Salvation Army is recruiting bellringers

The Salvation Army will be taking applications for employed bellringers at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at their Corps Community Center located at 2114 Oakwood Avenue in Huntsville.

HUNTSVILLE – The sound of ringing bells will soon accent the greater Huntsville area as The Salvation Army begins its Christmas Red Kettle Drive. And they are looking for bellringers to man those kettles outside area businesses.

“Our Christmas Red Kettles are without a doubt the most prolific segment of our fund raising,” reported Major Joseph May of the local Salvation Army. “Our kettle collection also generates a significant part of our social service budget.”

The Salvation Army will be taking applications for employed bellringers at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at their Corps Community Center located at 2114 Oakwood Avenue in Huntsville.

“We prefer to have volunteers man our kettles, however because we don’t have enough volunteers we do have to hire a number of workers to make sure our kettles are covered,” May said.

Applicants need to bring their driver’s license or state ID and social security card in order to apply.

“We ring bells every day with the exception of Sundays and Thanksgiving Day,” May stated.  “And the closer we get to Christmas the more bellringers we need.

The Salvation Army expects to provide toys and Christmas assistance to approximately 500 families, including about 2,000 children this year.

“There is a lot of need and we are thankful that we can count on the strong support of our community to help meet that need,” May added.

Area residents can make donations to The Salvation Army by sending contributions to Post Office Box 3799, Huntsville, Alabama.

The Salvation Army in Huntsville serves Madison County and provides food, clothing, emergency shelter, recovery programs and financial assistance to more than 4,700 people each year. The Salvation Army also conducts weekly religious services and provides character-building programs and fellowship opportunities to the Huntsville community.
