Bob Jones Drama Fest to include play, individual events for competition Oct. 29

MADISON – Drama Fest will be a win-win situation for drama students at Bob Jones High School finalizing performances for district competition and the audience for an evening of superb acting.

Drama Fest on Oct. 29 in Zompa Auditorium at Bob Jones will start at 6:30 p.m.

“Drama Fest is an incredible event that highlights students from all levels of our department,” drama teacher and Director Mary Davis said. “We greatly appreciate the community support as we prepare to compete at the District Trumbauer Competition on Nov. 1-2 at James Clemens High School.”

“Bob Jones students have worked tirelessly for the past few months to perfect their Individual Events,” Davis said. “After Individual Events are finished, we will present our original one-act play, ‘Stuck With You.’” “Our play is an original work, ‘Stuck With You,’ by Jesse Tilton, our Technical Director. We work very hard to challenge all our students by doing work that provides unique learning opportunities in acting and technical theater,” Davis said. “This play allows students to experience period-appropriate movement, speech, makeup, hair and costuming, as well as painting, building sets and making props.”

“Finding quality plays that accommodate all our actors is often difficult with a large cast. This show’s overall concept allows a more extensive cast to develop characters with ensemble-style acting,” Davis said. “Additionally, we challenged some of our students to write original music that we use in the show to propel the story further.”

“’Stuck With You’ is set in 1943, with America at a crossroads after joining the Allies in World War II. Women join the fight by taking jobs on the home front, becoming Rosie the Riveters, Wendy the Welders and others,” Davis said.

Washington D.C. has nearly tripled in size as tens of thousands of young women, known as Government Girls, flock there to find jobs in the growing bureaucracy of wartime America. One of these women, Samantha Lockhart, arrives with hopes of helping the science programs. They’re working to develop products intended to aid in the fight against the Axis powers.

“’Stuck With You’ is a romantic comedy about relationships — staying in them, breaking out of them and finding happiness in the ties that bind all of us together,” Davis said.

Lead actors are Cypress Bryce (Samantha Lockhart), Tevin Sheehy (Bill Allen); Dylan Henrie (William Baxter Thorndyke V), James Cairns (Dr. Dennis Reed), Maggie Lawley (Rebecca Marwood), Sarah Pierce (Rosemary Fernsby) and Tyler Hatten (N. Edwin Moore).

The supporting cast includes Nicole New (Barbara Rutherford Thorndyke), Tera Jackson (Dorothy Lockhart), Keaton Highsmith (Sid Lockhart), Julius Bone (Professor Sanders), Teagan Leo (Senator Mayo) and Ryan French (Senator Jones), along with Jaxon McClanathan, Drayton Walker, Evan Willis and Ryan Lawrence (Quartet).

The ensemble includes Olive Ball, Haley Clark, Ariana DeThomas, Adrian Fasone, Kate Hughes, Sumaya Keith, Naquandre Lee, Lila Lindsey, Riley McDonald and Leah Monroe.

Thomas Sigler is working as Student Director. Shari Kingsford is Costume Designer.

Tickets for Drama Fest are $12 for adults and $7 for students. Guests can buy tickets at the event with cash or cards.
