Walking in their father’s footsteps, Madison twins accepted at West Point

MADISON – The U.S. Military Academy at West Point has accepted identical twins Jacob Sigler and Thomas Sigler. The brothers are following in their father’s footsteps, because he also attended West Point.

The Sigler family moved to Madison in September 2019, following an Army assignment on Redstone Arsenal.

“Our dad, Jason Sigler, is a career Army Officer and in the U.S. Military Academy Class of 2001 (West Point), so we’ve been immersed in Army culture for our entire lives,” Jacob said. “We’ve always been interested in the possibility of attending the academy.”

During years at Bob Jones High School, Jacob and Thomas became more serious about West Point. “The application process has been very vigorous, including academic, physical and medical requirements,” Thomas said.

“We attended West Point Summer Leaders Experience (last) summer. This camp program solidified our individual commitments to pursuing appointments,” Thomas said.

The Sigler brothers will report to the academy on June 30, 2025, for Reception Day and begin six weeks of cadet basic training before the academic school year opens in August. Jacob plans to study mechanical engineering; Thomas intends to study civil engineering.

Jacob realizes that West Point will be challenging in many ways — from high standards of physical training but also academic rigor, especially with STEM courses. “Furthermore, the distance from family and friends will be a tough hurdle to overcome, but I’m confident it will be worth it in the end.”

“In addition, it will be hard . . . to be unable to come home as often as I want, but I’m ready to embrace these hardships and take advantage of all the opportunities,” Thomas said.

After graduation, the Siglers will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Army and will be committed to a minimum of five years of active duty service and three years in the re- serves.

The twins intend to sustain their close relationship while attending West Point. “Even though we’ll most likely not be in the same room or company, we’re excited to stay connected,” Jacob said. “Additionally, we’ll reunite with our close friends Caiden Ashley and Nick Lozano, as well as many other cadets from Madison while we’re there.”

Their father Jason Sigler serves as an U.S. Army officer, stationed on Redstone Arsenal. Their mother Brooke Sigler teaches second- graders at Madison Elementary School. Seventeen- year-old Jacob and Thomas have three brothers: 15-year-old Micah; 12-year-old Luke; and nine-year-old Caleb.

Jacob and Thomas attended American Legion Boys State and participated in Bob Jones’ Varsity Cross Country and Track teams; Student Ambassadors; and National Honor Society. They both were youth group leaders at church.

In addition, Jacob was a leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Student 2 Student, President; and Military Child Education Coalition’s Student Advisory Council, Co-Chair.

Thomas served as Student Director in Advanced Production Theatre Class and Student Body Vice President.
