James Clemens baseball splits Saturday games in Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE — The James Clemens Jets played two tightly contested games this past Saturday on the road ending up with one win and a loss.

The chilly wind whipped through the stands of Russellville High School as the Jets first battled the Itawamba Indians to an 8-7 win in extra innings.

The victory over the Indians was followed by a clash with the host team, Russellville High School where the Golden Tigers edged JC 12-11 with a massive 6-run bottom of the sixth to put away James Clemens.

Game 1: James Clemens 8, Itawamba 7 (8 innings)

Shortstop Jesse Isensee’s 2-hit game that included 3 RBIs and a run scored helped propel James Clemens to win.

The Jets scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead 7-5 after trailing for the majority of the game.

The Indians stormed back in the bottom of the seventh though with two runs to even the contest at 7-7 and force extra innings.

James Clemens scratched a run across in the eighth to go back up 8-7 and it would stick as Itawamba went down swinging in the bottom of the inning.

Game 2: Russellville 12, James Clemens 11

This one just got away from JC who was holding an 8-3 lead heading into the fifth inning.

The two schools each scored three runs in the fifth inning to make it 11-6 Jets after five.

The wheels fell off in the bottom of the sixth as the Golden Tigers hung six on James Clemens to escape the game with the win.

James Clemens is back on the road this weekend with four games in Tennessee.

On Friday at Independence High School, the Jets will first take on Independence at 4:30 p.m. followed by a game against Summit at 7 p.m.

JC has two more games on Saturday at Nolensville High School against Nolensville at 11 a.m. and then a clash with Brentwood at 1:30 p.m.
