U.S. Space & Rocket Center helps kick of Navy Week in the Rocket City

The U.S. Navy is sailing into the Rocket City for Navy Week, and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center is holding a kickoff event, Monday, April 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. Join us for a patriotic celebration of the Navy along with music, fun children’s activities, and delicious food in the Davidson Center’s Saturn V Hall.

The event is free and open to the public with food and beverages available for sale.

U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Todd Weeks will attend the event, and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, Madison Mayor Paul Finley, and Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon will present a joint proclamation honoring Navy Week.

Doors open at 5, with the program beginning at 6 p.m.

The Hazel Green High School U.S. Navy JROTC Color Guard will present the colors for the evening, while the Hazel Green Jazz Band will provide the entertainment.

Navy Week is designed to connect communities to the Navy and highlight the Navy’s importance to national security, economic prosperity, and global presence. This year’s Navy Week events will also celebrate the service’s 250th birthday, a yearlong celebration honoring the naval force.

Navy Week activities and appearances will take place around the area during the week of April 21 through 27. It will include:

  • Senior Navy Leaders – Meet and hear from senior Navy officials, including those with local ties to Huntsville and the surrounding area.
  • Namesake Sailors – Interact with Sailors serving aboard the Ohio-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine USS Alabama (SSBN-731).
