MVP urges everyone to turn out for ‘Big Weekend of Service’

MADISON – Madison Visionary Partners or MVP invites all ages, backgrounds and aptitudes to join hometown volunteer forces during the Big Weekend of Service.

Throughout the City of Madison, residents will help local volunteer projects on June 27-28. The Big Weekend of Service two-day event will attract volunteers of all ages to serve alongside local nonprofits, civic organizations, city departments and clubs to support meaningful projects that strengthen the community we call home, MVP Executive Director Christina Hearne said.

“From beautification and clean-up efforts to hands-on support for community programs, the Big Weekend of Service offers a variety of ways for residents, families, businesses and civic groups to get involved and give back in Madison,” Hearne said.

MVP hopes to bring together individuals, families, schools, faith groups and businesses in service to Madison. “Help us kick off this effort with a big weekend of service with multiple service opportunities, all in Madison, Ala.!” Hearne said.

“Our goal is to create opportunities for people to come together and make a difference” Hearne said. “This weekend is about building connections, showing pride in our city and supporting the incredible organizations that serve Madison every day.”

Opportunities to volunteer, all occurring within the City of Madison, include park cleanups, landscaping projects, backpack ‘stuffing,’ trailhead construction, painting, trash collection and other jobs.

To sign up to volunteer or view the full list of projects, visit mvpmadison.org/volunteer.

For the Big Weekend of Service, examples of projects for which individuals and groups can sign up to work are available to review at signup.com/ group/65148373002:

• Madison Hospital – Lawn maintenance. These ‘light’ jobs involve pulling weeds and trimming shrubbery. Bring your own small gardening tools.

• Old Providence Trail – Join Madison Greenways and Trails in building this new, half-mile trail in Madison’s newest preserve in the Mill Creek/Betts Spring area.

• West Madison Pre-Kindergarten Center – The campus needs benches and a concrete wall painted, along with cleaning up the courtyard by pulling weeds and leaf blowing.

• Neighborhood parks – Madison Parks and Recreation Department needs help with mulching at Leathertree, Silver Creek, Stewart and Windsor parks.

Founded in 2014, MVP is a community nonprofit organization established by a group of community and business leaders. “Our primary focus is garnering philanthropic support and collaborative partnerships for community projects,” Hearne said. “Our mission focus is enriching the quality of life for the City of Madison.”

Individuals can follow MVP on social media, especially Facebook, for updates on future events and openings to volunteer. For more information about MVP, visit madisonvisionarypartners. org.
