Calhoun volleyball sweeps Northwest Shoals

DECATUR – Calhoun Volleyball turned in a dominant performance last week in their home opener, sweeping Northwest Shoals 3-0. The Warhawks controlled the match from start to finish, earning set wins of 25-14, 25-15, and 25-20 to secure the victory.

A balanced attack powered the Warhawks, with Ava Boyl leading the way with a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs. Allie Avena added seven kills to keep the offense rolling, while setters Maddie Schwabe (18 assists, 5 digs) and Amber Holshouser (11 assists, 4 digs) distributed the ball efficiently throughout the night.

Defensively, the Warhawks made it difficult for Northwest Shoals to find a rhythm. Lucy Means anchored the back row with 11 digs and contributed three aces, while Ashtyn Douglas added five digs. Cathleen Vail and Reese Patterson also chipped in with strong performances, combining for five aces.

“This was a complete team win,” said Head Coach Jamiee Freeman. “We were aggressive at the net, consistent on defense, and competed with energy from start to finish. It’s the type of performance we aim to carry into next week.”

The Warhawks hit the road to Gadsden State Community College on Sept. 10. They return home to host Bevill State Community College on Sept. 16.
