Best-Selling Author Jen Hatmaker brings tour to Blue Apple Books on Oct. 21
MADISON – Among October activities at Blue Apple Books, author Jen Hatmaker’s visit is set for Oct. 21.
Hatmaker’s memoir, “Awake,” was released in September and has been designated as a “Best of Fall” selection by “Oprah Daily.”
Recent stories in both “The New York Times” and “TIME,” along with an appearance on “CBS This Morning,” highlight Hatmaker’s humor and candor as she reveals the aftermath of her divorce and tumultuous faith journey.
Blue Apple Books, in cooperation with Madison Arts Alliance, is proud to be one of 15 book tour stops for Hatmaker, who is a “New York Times Bestselling Author” and host of “For the Love” podcast. Hatmaker will present a brutally honest, funny and revealing memoir about the traumatic end of her marriage of 26 years and her beginning a different kind of love story, according to Robin Dauma, owner of Blue Apple Books.
Hatmaker’s stop on Oct. 21 includes a VIP Meet & Greet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Blue Apple Books, 14 Main St. in Madison. Then at 7 p.m. at Columbia High School in Huntsville, special guest Mary Katherine Backstrom will open the evening, followed by Hatmaker’s keynote address.
Ticket purchase via the Arts-People website is required. VIP Event tickets are timed. Keynote address tickets offer reserved seating. Both ticket types include one copy of “Awake” with signed bookplate.
Hatmaker offered advice in this quote: “Let’s be honest — the heaviest Halloween costumes we wear don’t come from the store. They’re the masks we’ve stitched together over years, sometimes decades of pretending”: Also on Blue Apple’s schedule, the “Witchy Makeup Workshop” on Oct. 19 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. will offer options by local professional makeup artist Whitney Cardo. Just in time for spooky season!
Cardo’s workshop coincides with the date for Madison Witches’ Ride, which runs from 3 to 5 p.m. “Perfect timing for you to be ready to either participate or watch the ride,” Dauma said.
Witchy Workshop’s fee is $130 with a makeup kit or $60 without the kit. Light snacks will be served. Participants receive 10-percent discount on bookstore purchases. Visit instagram.com/whitney. cardo.
The next workshop, “Book Writing 101” by Dwaynia Wilkerson on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. will steer prospective authors to “learn how to get your book out of your head and to the starting line.” Wilkerson will explain how to identify your topic and purpose, develop a writing guideline and set a writing schedule.
Another October event will be “Spill The Tea HSV” on Oct. 26 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Hosts Lauren and Bree, alongside Licensed Professional Counselor Teresa Williams, will create an exclusive podcast event.
Attendees can ask a therapist the tough, real-life questions about toxic relationships, betrayal and healing. With candid conversations and expert insight, this event is designed to provide guidance for anyone seeking clarity and growth in the aftermath of difficult relationships, Dauma said.
The podcasters will take questions anonymously with a question box. “You can ask openly and honestly — no names, no pressure,” Dauma said. “Come ready with your questions, and leave with practical tools, fresh perspective and reassurance that you’re not alone.”
Tickets are free but required. For more information, call 256-479-4681, email owner@shopsouthandpine. com or “Blue Apple Books” in social media.
