Find handmade treasures at Messiah Lutheran Quilt Sale

MADISON – A homemade/ handmade quilt gives not only warmth but a cozy, peaceful feeling of security against winter’s wind and daily stress. Members of Messiah Lutheran Church have created an array of quilts for sale during November.

Proceeds from quilt purchases will benefit the work of Lutheran World Relief.

“Does anything else say ‘fall’ more than a good meal and a warm blanket? The talented quilters in the church’s Comforters group sew or crochet quilts, lap robes and prayer shawls to bring comfort to those in need,” according to mlutheran. org. The inventory of quilts has varied patterns, styles and designs. Many quilts feature traditional patchwork blends of florals, geometrics and blocks. However, Messiah Lutheran’s designs include attractive designs for quilts with Christmas motifs, table cloths and runners, Charlie Brown and “Peanuts” characters, Winnie the Pooh, patriotic patterns… even a Hannah Montana pillow.

Numerous quilts are donated and distributed through Lutheran World Relief for use as warm bedding, simple tents or floor coverings to those living in poverty. The remainder of the quilt inventory is available in Messiah’s annual Quilt Sale. Each year, Messiah Lutheran members make quilts to supply comfort to in-need individuals during times of famine, war, poverty and disaster both in the United States and around the world with Lutheran World Relief.

Founded in 1945 by Lutherans in the United States, Lutheran World Relief is an international aid and development organization that partners with communities to help them develop productive and stable economies, improve resilience in the face of a changing climate and respond to natural disasters and humanitarian crises. In 2019, Lutheran World Relief joined the Corus International family, an ensemble of global leaders united in a commitment to ending poverty, suffering and injustice.

Today, Lutheran World Relief operates in East and West Africa, Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the United States, helping some of the world’s poorest communities build the resilience they need to thrive.
