Johnson to help Alabama All-Stars
MADISON- The 2025 high school football season is complete for the James Clemens Jets finishing 5-6 on the field, but the work continues off the field for head coach Juan Johnson who just completed his first season as head coach of Madison’s youngest high school. The 41-year old Johnson will be an assistant coach for the Alabama All-Stars as some of the best players in the state will represent Alabama in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic scheduled for Dec. 13 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
“As offensive coordinator for the game, I’ve been busy putting together a play book and the schemes needed to help Alabama bring back its fifth consecutive victory in the annual All-Star Game,” said Johnson. “I’m excited about calling the offensive plays for our kids. I’ve had to try to adapt to some of the special rules set forth for this game, such as, no shifts or motion plays on offense. We will have just eight practices prior to the game in the four days we’ll have to work with our players.”
For Johnson, who came to James Clemens prior to the 2025 season after one season as head coach of Baker High of Mobile. Before that, he was an assistant at Hewitt-Trussville for nearly a decade where he coached two of the players who are now on the Alabama All-Star roster. “I’ve known both of those players since they were in kindergarten,” said Johnson. The duo of talent are Delvecchio “Deuce” Alston, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound running back who has committed to sign with Kentucky, and Dylan Cope, a 6-3, 190 wide receiver who looks to play at Virginia in college.
“I’m definitely thrilled to be part of the coaching staff and excited to have the opportunity and feel it’s an honor to be coaching those two players in particular,” added Johnson.
As for his program at James Clemens, Johnson is proud of what he was able to accomplish in his first season for the Jets. “Yes, overall, our team grew tremendously during our season as a lot of our games went down to the wire,” said Johnson, of the team which finished 5-6 with a 10-point loss to Fairhope in round one of the post-season playoffs. “We have 91 players coming back in 2026 and we currently have 126 players on our overall roster. In other words, these are exciting times for football on County Line Road.”
The Dec. 13, 39th annual Alabama- Mississippi Classic is set for M.M. Roberts Stadium located on the campus of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg where the visiting team from Alabama has a four-game winning streak, including last year’s 35-29 victory, and holds a 27-11 edge in the series.
