Holiday cheer hits Main Street as Madison’s mayors go Christmas shopping downtown

MADISON – Monday morning brought an extra dose of holiday cheer to Main Street in the Historic Downtown Madison Entertainment District as Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett stepped out to do some Christmas shopping, with a special guest by her side. Joining her was Pup Mayor Cooper, Madison’s fourlegged ambassador, who quickly became the star of the morning.

The pair strolled through downtown, visiting local shops and greeting residents as they enjoyed the festive atmosphere. Storefronts decorated for the season set the scene as Mayor Bartlett chatted with business owners and shoppers, highlighting the importance of supporting local businesses during the holiday season.

Meanwhile, Mayor Cooper soaked up the attention. The friendly pup drew smiles, laughter, and plenty of requests for photos and pets from locals delighted to see him out and about. Children and adults alike stopped to say hello, making Cooper’s holiday shopping trip one filled with wagging tails, warm interactions, and many treats.

“It’s wonderful to see our downtown so lively, especially during the holidays,” Mayor Bartlett said. The special visit was in conjunction with Main Street Madison’s focus on promoting and improving the downtown area.

The walk along Main Street was marked by laughter, friendly conversations, and a shared sense of community pride. From browsing unique gifts to simply enjoying the company of neighbors, the morning reflected the welcoming spirit that defines downtown Madison.

As the mayors wrapped up their visit, it was clear that the outing was about more than shopping. It was a celebration of community, connection, and holiday joy, with Pup Mayor Cooper proving once again that sometimes the best way to bring people together is with a wagging tail and a big heart.
