Madison to host Alabama All-Girls State Chess Championship
MADISON – Madison will be the host city for the 2026 Alabama All-Girls State Chess Championship.
The contestants will gather at Madison Community Center, 1329 Brown’s Ferry Road, on Feb. 7, 2026, for the state tournament.
This rated State Championship will have three sections: grades K-12; K-6; and K-3. The winner of the K-12 Section will represent Alabama at the Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions.
Madison City Chess League or MCCL expressed thanks to State Sen. Arthur Orr and the Madison County Legislative Delegation as sponsors again this year for the 2026 Alabama All-Girls State Chess Championship.
At the All-Girls Championship, the K-12 Section will have round times at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Its time control will be Game 45/d5 (4SS). The K-6 and K-3 Sections have scheduled round times at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. The time control will be Game 30/d5 (5SS).
Team scores will include the top four individual scores from the same school in each section.
The championship’s entry fee is $25 for payments through Jan. 30, 2026. The entry fee increases to $50 for payments between Jan. 31 and Feb. 4, 2026. Onsite registration will not be available for the All-Girls Championship.
Before registration, all players are required to have memberships in US Chess (new.uschess.org/ join-us-chess) and Alabama Chess Federation (alabamachess.org/signup).

For individual prizes, contestants who earn first through fifth places will receive trophies. All players who tie for fifth place in each section will receive a medal. For team prizes, teams who claim first through third places in each section will receive trophies. “The K-12 Champion will serve as the Haring representative for Alabama at the Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions,” MCCL Executive Director Todd Guthrie said.
