New sports to debut at 43rd Alabama State Games in June
MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Sports Games continue to evolve into one of the best games of its type in the country as the upcoming 43rd edition of the competition continues to build on the momentum generated from 2025’s success with the debut of Billiards, Futsal (soccer), Kickball, and STUNT (Cheer) and the return of Bass Fishing and Mountain Biking. The Alabama State Games takes place June 12-14 at venues in and around Birmingham and Jefferson County.
Registration for these sports, along with the more than 20 returning sports, opens March 1 at ALAGAMES.com.
“It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm for the sports each staff member wants to bring to the next Alabama State Games. Most importantly, every new sport introduces new athletes and new families to the ASG Community. That also means more athletes are able to participate in our ever-growing academic scholarship program,” said ASF Foundation CEO and Executive Director Laura Creel Burt.
“USA Cheer is thrilled to partner with the Alabama State Games to bring STUNT to the incredible state of Alabama,” said Shayna Danielsen, director of Club STUNT for USA Cheer. “As one of the fastest-growing women’s sports in the country, STUNT provides athletes with a powerful platform to showcase their talent, skill and teamwork. We’re confident the Alabama State Games will expand opportunities for athletes in Alabama while celebrating the continued growth of this exciting sport.”
The Alabama State Games welcomes a mixture of athletes from those looking for hard-fought competition, to those looking to try something new or those just looking for an opportunity to stay healthy and active. Below is a list of sports offered during the 2026 event.
The Alabama State Games is an “America 250 Alabama” certified event, fitting the mission to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary taking place on July 4, but being celebrated throughout the year. The Alabama State Games will have its celebration June 12 during the 43rd Opening Ceremony, which will honor America’s past, celebrate its people and the promise of the future. Founded in 1982 at the request of the U.S. Olympic Committee, the Alabama State Games began in 1983 with four sports and 600 athletes. Now, the annual event hosts over 25 sports and welcomes more than 4,000 athletes statewide, uniting competitors in the pursuit of gold, silver, and bronze, and celebrating the powerful unity of sport and community.
The ASF Foundation supports student success through its academic scholarship program. Registered athletes who attend the pre-opening ceremony events and the Opening Ceremony on June 12, will be eligible for one of 17 $2,500 academic scholarships. To date, more than $460,000 have been awarded to athletes participating in the Alabama State Games.
