Sprinters lead the Jets in their own Early Bird Track Meet
HUNTSVILLE – Youth equals speed most of the time in track and that combination seem to work well for the James Clemens Jets track and field program as it took second place trophies in both boys and girls division as host of its own Early Bird Invitational Track & Field Meet held at Huntsville’s Milton Frank Stadium.
With Buckhorn High winning both divisions, the host Jets looked to the sprints portion of the meet to excel with both meet and school record performances. The record setters were led by junior London Hall who set new meet records in both the 100m (11.69) and 200m sprints while setting a new school record (23.61) in the girls 200m and fellow junior class athlete Trevor Caudle who took the boys 100m in new meet record form (10.80). The Jets also showcased its talents by taking podium sweeps in the boys 100m and both the girls 100m and 200m races.
“The first meet of the season showed strength across many areas and we are proud of the focus, competitiveness and composure our athletes displayed throughout the day,” said Richard Ross, member of the James Clemens coaching staff. “We look forward to continued growth as the season progresses and appreciate the support of our families and community.”
Bob Jones posted four firstplace performances led by winning the 4×100 relay in boys competition. Sparkman also showed out in areas with senior Charity Collier winning gold in both the girls discus and shot put, two areas she has excelled in since arriving on the Senators’ squad.
