MADISON – Madison officials Monday night recognized the public service of former Madison County Commissioner Mac McCutcheon with the presentation of a framed City of Madison coin, a small token of appreciation for a lifetime of leadership and dedication to our community. Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett presented the coin at last night’s Madison City Council meeting.
Before entering public office, Chairman McCutcheon served thde region for 25 years with the Huntsville Police Department, where he worked in a variety of roles, including training and community engagement. His work helping establish and support programs like D.A.R.E. helped positively shape the lives of countless young people and families across Madison County. In 2006, he was elected to represent District 25 in the Alabama House of Representatives, beginning more than a decade of thoughtful and principled leadership in Montgomery. In 2016, his colleagues elected him the 66th Speaker of the House, a role he held until 2022. Throughout his legislative career, Speaker McCutcheon championed policies that supported economic growth, strengthened communities, and advanced transportation and infrastructure investments that benefitted cities like Madison and communities across North Alabama.

McCutcheon later continued his service closer to home as Chairman of the Madison County Commission, guiding the county during a time of unprecedented growth in our region. His leadership helped foster strong partnerships between Madison County and the City of Madison, partnerships that continue to support infrastructure improvements, economic development, and the quality of life Madison residents enjoy today.

“Chairman McCutcheon is widely respected for his integrity, humility, and steady leadership. His decades of service have helped shape Madison County into one of the most dynamic and forward-looking regions in the state of Alabama,” said Mayor Bartlett. “The City of Madison is honored to recognize Chairman Mac McCutcheon for his distinguished career in public service and for his many contributions to the success and prosperity of our city and the entire Madison County community.”
