Multi-agency coordination leads to arrest of Madison man in University Drive shooting

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) arrested a man following a shooting in the 3100 block of University Drive.

On Tuesday, March 24, officers responded to a shooting in progress and located a victim suffering from serious injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Investigators with HPD’s Violent Crimes Unit, assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) North Alabama Violent Crimes Task Force (NAVCTF), responded and began working to identify the person responsible.

HPD said that through coordinated investigative efforts, investigators identified Ijai Darrnell Hall, 25, of Madison, as a person of interest and worked to locate him.

Working alongside HPD’s Anti-Crime Team, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the FBI NAVCTF, investigators developed information that Hall was at a residence in the 12000 block of Chicamauga Trail. After confirming his presence, HPD’s SWAT Team served a search warrant

Hall exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Criminal Investigations Division for questioning.

Following the interview, Hall was arrested and charged with first degree aggravated assault non-family-gun.

“This case highlights the strength of coordination across our units and federal partners,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “From the initial response to the arrest, our teams worked quickly and methodically to identify the suspect and take him into custody safely. That level of collaboration is critical to holding violent offenders accountable and protecting our community.”

The case will be presented to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.
