James Clemens to host Sparkman in girls Class 7A soccer first-round playoffs

MADISON – With one suspicious eye on the weather and the other laser-sharp focused on a Madison County Top 10 showdown, James Clemens is preparing to host Sparkman in a girls Class 7A soccer first-round game.

Possible inclement weather in the forecast has officials at both schools cautious in confirming Tuesday’s 5 p.m. kickoff at Madison City Stadium.

But one thing can be scratched into stone. No matter the date, no matter the time, the second-ranked Lady Jets and the 10th-ranked Lady Senators will show up with intentions of advancing to the next round.

“Right now the game time is still being decided on because of the weather that’s rolling in,’’ James Clemens head coach Erin Riddle said Sunday night. “Both teams are ready to play whenever we can. I think it’ll be a great match.’’

In Tuesday night’s scheduled action, Bob Jones boys take on Huntsville; Madison Academy girls play Geraldine in 1A-3A, and Madison Academy boys play Geraldine.

Looking ahead to playing Sparkman, Riddle gave a preview.

“We saw Sparkman earlier this season away, so this will be our first time having Sparkman at home this season,’’ Riddle said. “They’re a good physical opponent’’
