MADISON – A Discovery Middle School educator was arrested Monday after the Madison Police Department and Madison City Schools investigated allegations of inappropriate contact by a teacher towards a student. Gilford Kibler Jr., age 62, a career and technical education (CTE) teacher for grades 6-8 was charged with “school employee sexual contact with student under the age of 19”.
Kibler was transported Monday afternoon to the Madison County Jail and released early Tuesday morning on a $20,000 bond.
School officials said Kibler has been placed on administrative leave and is prohibited from entering any Madison City Schools property or participating in any school-sponsored activities until the investigation concludes.
Kibler is the second middle school teacher at Madison City Schools charged with child sex crimes this month. Logan Thomas, age 32, a Journey Middle School teacher, was arrested two weeks ago on 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material with intent to disseminate and one count of electronic solicitation of a child.
Madison City Schools Superintendent of Education Dr. Ed Nichols made the following statement concerning Kibler’s arrest:
