This week will be a busy one for local sports playoffs

MADISON – The next week will be a busy one for two local schools as the high school playoffs continue on a path toward championships in baseball, soccer and softball.

Bob Jones and Madison Academy have secured berths in the baseball quarterfinals, boys soccer semifinals and softball regionals. One more team – Sparkman softball – hopes to join the party when the Class 7A, Area 7 tournament begins today at Huntsville High.

First up is the state soccer final four at Huntsville’s Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex at John Hunt Park, where boys teams from 7A Bob Jones and 1A-3A Madison Academy will compete in the semifinals Wednesday and Thursday.

There’s also the state baseball quarterfinal playoffs featuring 7A Thompson at Bob Jones and 5A Madison Academy at Moody. Winners advance to the semifinals the weekend of May 15-16. The state baseball finals will be played May 18-22 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford and Jacksonville State University.

Then there’s the softball North Regionals at Coffee O’Neal Park in Florence from May 11-14. 7A Bob Jones and 3A Madison Academy have already qualified, with 7A Sparkman a possibility. Regional qualifiers advance to the softball state championship tournament May 18-22 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford.
