Madison City Chess League announces winners in 2026 Grade Championships
MADISON – Madison City Chess League presented the 2026 MCCL Grade Championships and congratulates the winners in each age group from kindergarten through high-school seniors.
Mill Creek Elementary School hosted the event on April 18. Previously, the event’s name was City Chess Championship.
“Thank you to everyone who helped us make the MCCL Grade Championships happen,” MCCL Executive Director Todd Guthrie said. “And thank you to Cepeda for sponsoring the event. Cepeda, a local company owned by Steve and Alice Lessmann, stepped up to sponsor the championships.”
In addition, Cepeda financially supported MCCL in renting space at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center for the Alabama State Scholastic Chess Championship.
MCCL gave awards to top contestants in each age group at the Grade Championships: • Kindergarten – Rhett Smith, first; Aaron Quansah, second.
• First grade — Bode Atkins, first; Lucy Saulters, second; Lucas Malone, third; Arihan Godha, tied for third.
• Second grade — Theodore Malak, first place; William Palmer, second place; Dexter Beales, third place; Jai Narahari, tied for third.
• Third grade — Lev Loginov, first place; Eli Walker, second place; Ryder Nichols, tied for second.
• Fourth grade — Samuel Liao, first place; William Cusack, second place; Ishaan Verma, third place; Pratham Kothari and Arjun Narahari, tied for third.
• Fifth grade — Milan Malak, first place; Rais Nichols, second place; Vincent Grenon, third place; Charlie Saulters, tied for third.
• Sixth grade — Jonathan Lam, first place; Wyatt Dunlap, second place; Mason Harbin, third place.
• Seventh grade — Esteban Jerez, first place; Parker Klein, second place; John Kawamoto, third place.
• Eighth grade — Manasvi Indraganti, first place; Abigail Barbre, tied for first; Mason Park, third place.
• Ninth grade — Sophia Jerez, first place; Noah Hsu, second place.
• Tenth grade — Tim Lee, first place; Christina Yang, second place.
• Eleventh grade — Jacob New, first place.
• Twelfth grade — Andrew Yang, first place; Artem Starenki, second place.
