Huntsville and Madison planning to celebrate America’s 250th with special events

The City of Huntsville is inviting residents from across the community to come together in downtown Huntsville on Saturday, July 4, for a full day of patriotic, family‑friendly fun as part of Huntsville’s America 250 celebration.

This year’s Independence Day event presented by Meta promises music, history, food, fireworks and a once‑in‑a‑lifetime celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary.

Mayor Tommy Battle said the vision for the celebration began a year ago when the Huntsville Salutes America’s 250th Committee was formed.

“When we established the Committee, we knew from the very beginning that our commemoration of this historic milestone had to culminate in something truly special,” Mayor Battle said. “Huntsville needed a July 4th celebration that matched the significance of the moment—a celebration worthy of our community, our history and our future.”

Residents will have the unique opportunity to celebrate Independence Day in Big Spring Park in 2026, and organizers have prepared a schedule packed with activities for all ages:

4 p.m. – Vendor market, food trucks, DJ, historical reenactments and educational experiences

5 p.m. – American Eras Parade, beginning on Monroe Street, sharing a moving storyline of American history

6 p.m. – Live music in the park featuring Groove, followed by Huntsville’s own Jazz McKenzie and her 10‑piece band

9 p.m. – A spectacular 25‑minute fireworks finale accompanied by the Huntsville Concert Band

The parade will also be broadcast live on WHNT19 and streamed by partner stations across Alabama and Georgia.

“We’ve built a lineup that offers something for everyone,” Parker said. “We encourage everyone to join us—bring a picnic, visit the food trucks, pack your chairs and blankets, and settle in for a celebration you’ll never forget.”

The July 4th festivities are a signature part of Huntsville’s America 250 programming, a months‑long lineup of events, concerts, educational opportunities and cultural activities leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Joining the citywide celebration lineup of official America 250 events is Rocket City Space Fest on July 16-20, an event highlighting Huntsville’s role in American space exploration. Festival Chair Ralph Petroff shared his excitement for the event.

“Rocket City Space Fest will shine a national spotlight on Huntsville’s central role in one of America’s greatest achievements – getting humanity to the Moon — and the City’s continued leadership in shaping the future of space exploration,” Petroff said. “Launching this July as the ‘after-party’ for America’s 250th anniversary celebration, the festival will grow into an annual tradition celebrating Huntsville’s unmatched space legacy through community events, inspiration, and discovery.”

Events in Madison

Madison has received the distinguished designation of being named an America 250 Alabama Semiquincentennial City.

Madison joins Huntsville, Montgomery, Mobile, and Athens among the first 50 cities to be named a Semiquincentennial City by the Alabama USA Semiquentennial Commission.

“As we approach this historic milestone, it is an ideal moment for communities across Alabama to place renewed focus on the values that define our nation, said Alabama USA Semiquincentennial Executive Officer Natalie Steed. “By encouraging residents to learn more about American history, the principles of democracy, and the responsibilities of citizenship, we can help foster a deeper appreciation for the ideals that shaped both our state and our country.”

Madison will be marking America 250 and Independence Day this year with four festive events.

Festivities kick off on June 28 with the Children’s Parade: America’s Birthday Party that encourages kids to dress patriotically and in historic costume. On July 2, another parade will take over County Line Road and on July 3, the annual patriotic fireworks show will take place at Dublin Park. Independence Day, July 4, will feature a fireworks display at Toyota Field.

“As we approach our nation’s 250th anniversary, the City of Madison is honored to play a role in telling the American story. This designation allows us to celebrate our shared history, recognize the progress we’ve made, and invite our community to come together, learn, and celebrate. Through a series of events, we look forward to honoring our past and inspiring the next generation right here in Madison,” said Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett on the designation.

Here is a brief look at each event planned:

AMERICA 250: CHILDREN’S PARADE (perfect for grandchildren) – Kick off America’s Birthday Celebration with a Children’s Parade and concert on June 25 at Homeplace Park in downtown Madison! The theme of the parade is America’s Birthday Party. Kids are encouraged to dress up as patriotic or historical figures. Prizes will be awarded to the best costumes! The parade will begin at 6:45 p.m. followed by the Sounds of Summer Concert presented by the Madison Arts Alliance.

AMERICA 250 PARADE: ONE NATION, MANY STORIES – The City of Madison invites the community to celebrate Independence Day with the America 250 Parade on Thursday, July 2, at 6 p.m. The parade will travel along County Line Road, beginning at Heritage Elementary School and ending at James Clemens High School. The route is approximately 1.6 miles. Community groups, organizations, elected officials, walking groups, marching groups, vehicles, floats, and trailers are welcome to register. LET FREEDOM RING AT DUBLIN PARK ON JULY 3 – Bring the whole family out for an evening of Independence Day fun featuring food vendors, live music, inflatables, and a fireworks show to end the night! All event parking will be at Bob Jones High School, and free shuttle service will be provided to and from Dublin Park throughout the event. Come celebrate starting at 5 p.m. and lasting until 9 p.m. for a night full of food, fun, and fireworks!

FIREWORKS AT TOYOTA FIELD – Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the USA at Toyota Field! Madison’s MiLB team, Rocket City Trash Pandas, will host a game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on July 4 at 6:35 p.m. Stay after the game for their biggest firework show of the year, presented by SAIC!
