Winning past follows Freeman as the new volleyball head coach at James Clemens

MADISON – James Clemens High announced the placement of Jamiee Freeman as the new head coach of the school’s volleyball program. The 35-year-old and mother of two, comes to the Jets’ high school program from Calhoun Community College where she led that program since 20222. During her stay with the Lady Warhawks, the team earned school historic success including conference and district championships and first-ever National Tournament qualification and first NJCAA Second-Team All-American player.

“I understand the fallout of losing a coach and the job sparked my interest as I know the school administration is very supportive,” said Freeman, who was a volunteer assistant coach for the James Clemens program from 2016-2019 before she was head coach for both Arab and Decatur High programs 20192022. “I’m eager to work with this administration and the community, as I know there is a great family culture here, which leads to success.”

Freeman replaced Megan Aldridge who excited her position of head coach after two seasons leading the Lady Jets.

Freeman walks into her position as head coach with little knowledge of the players returning this season as last year’s roster featured 10 underclassmen who should be available to her liking.

“I’m having the previous assistant coaches working with me as they formulated an off-season, summer workouts after Megan left her position,” added Freeman.

As for the type of coaching style she brings to volleyball on County Line Road, she explained, “I do a lot of talking at practice and push my players to become the best they can physically and mentally can be. During games, I’m a little different style of coach as I’m laid back and make adjustments as needed. I’m also a huge cheerleader for my players.”

Freeman is no stranger to what it takes to be an elite athlete who experiences success upon hard work and dedication to her craft. She was a gifted two-sport athlete at Sparkman High graduating in 2009. While her stay with the Senators, she had the rare talent to play both basketball and volleyball, and was gifted at both sports. In her sophomore year of 2007, she was on the basketball team which won the Class 6A state championship. She played that sport as a sophomore-senior. She tackled the skills for the volleyball team as a freshman-junior, but did not partake on the team as a senior. Her not playing her senior season, after being awarded honors such as All-County and All-Area leading the team in kills and digs, did not cause colleges to stay away.

Matter of fact, she signed an athletic scholarship to play volleyball at Georgia State.

Freeman has two children, Brayden, nine, and Dallas, age six. She understands the family atmosphere is extremely important in her private life and in her career with girls she hopes to mold into successful athletes and adults.
