Library to host Sharon Cameron, ‘New York Times’ Bestselling Author

MADISON – Madison Public Library, 142 Plaza Blvd. has scheduled ‘An Evening With Sharon Cameron,’ who hails as a “New York Times” Bestselling Author.

The session on Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. will celebrate Cameron’s latest release, “Up From the Ashes.” Set during World War II, her book is a story of courage, survival and the enduring power of hope.

Event sponsors are Huntsville- Madison County Library Foundation, Blue Apple Books and Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

Cameron will share the story behind her newest novel and how she brought this powerful new story to life. A young adult novel, “Up From the Ashes” gives an excellent opportunity for younger readers. Families and longtime fans of Cameron’s work can meet the author and celebrate her new book at the Madison session.

The event is free, but the library staff asks for registration to track the audience size.

Tickets cost $22 each and include a copy of “Up From the Ashes.” Blue Apple Books employees will attend Cameron’s session and have copies of her new book and a selection of Cameron’s backlist titles available for purchase. This event is hosted in partnership with Blue Apple Books.

“Up From the Ashes” is based on the true story of Selma Wijnberg and Chaim Engel, two Jewish prisoners at the Sobibor death camp during the Holocaust. Despite unimaginable circumstances, Selma and Chaim fall in love and find hope in one another.

Cameron’s book examines both love and survival. When the prisoners plan a daring escape, Selma and Chaim must fight for their lives. The book recounts the true story of the Sobibor revolt and escape.

Cameron has written seven award-winning novels, includ- ing “The Light in Hidden Places,” 2020; “Bluebird,” 2021; and “Artiface,” 2023. “The Light in Hidden Places” was a selection for the 2020 Reese Witherspoon Book Club and has been sold in 19 countries.

Cameron has achieved several honors: Parents’ Choice “Gold Award,” “Westchester Fiction Award” and Junior Library Guild’s “Gold Standard Award.” She also earned starred reviews from Booklist, SLJ, Book Page and Kirkus. Cameron has been chosen for “Indie Next Top Ten,” Young Adult Library Services Association’s “Best Fiction for Young Adults,” Audible “Best Books” and numerous state award nominations.
