Bid delays pool projects at Dublin Park

By By Thomas Tingle

City engineers say the lowest bid to construct a pool house at the site of a proposed outdoor swimming pool at Dublin Park is under negotiation and several road projects in Madison are in the final stages of design.
Madison City Engineer Jo Somers said up to $588,000 has been budget to build a pool and pool house at Dublin Park. Somers said the two projects were bid separately with Burleson Pools coming in as the lowest bidder for the pool and Lee Builders coming in as the lowest bidder for the pool house. However, Lee Builder's bid, when combined with the bid from Burleson Pools, totals more than $588,000.
"We are negotiating the bid from Lee Builders on the pool house at this time," Somers said. "Once we have done that, we should be able to begin construction."
Somes said four road projects in Madison are in the final stages of design.
Plans are under way to add a turn lane north of U.S. Highway 72 on Hughes Road at the entrance to the Colonial Promenade shopping center. At the present time, there is not a turn lane for motorists exiting the shopping center to turn left onto Highway 72 east.
A turn lane will be built at the intersection of Shelton Road and Madison Blvd. Heavy traffic at the busy intersection has warranted the need for a turn lane to allow motorists to turn left onto Madison Blvd east.
An extension of Eastview Drive west to Wall-Triana Highway is planned.
"At the present time, funding has been budgeted in the project for engineering, right-of-way acquisition and some of the construction itself," Somers said. "With what funding has been budgeted now for the project, we will be able to extend Eastview Drive north of Bob Jones High School to allow a better traffic flow in and out of the high school during the morning and afternoon commute."
Somers said as funding to complete the Eastview Drive extension is acquired, the rest of the extension would be completed.
