Heritage students collect goods for servicemen

At Heritage Elementary School, Operation Enduring Freedom has touched many of the lives of the school's faculty, staff members and the student body.
To show their support of the armed forces overseas, the students decided to send care packages filled with all sorts of goodies and items the servicemen aren't able to get on an everyday basis.
Heritage School Counselor Cindy Davis said getting the addresses and locations of where the servicemen are at the present time hasn't been difficult and the effort in collecting items for the care packages will continue throughout the school year. On Sept. 11, the students at Heritage Elementary School held a special memorial service in memory of those lost and in support of their parents and all of the armed forces. It was at the memorial service where more than 17 boxes were displayed, addressed and prepared for mailing.
"We have a number of parents who have been called to active duty and through that, we're going to be able to get these care packages sent accordingly to our family members and troops," Davis said.
Items will be collected throughout the school year and can be dropped off at the school. Among the items being sent in the care packages include candy, cookies, gum, DVD's, videos, books, magazines, toiletries, individually wrapped wet cloths and non-perishable food items.
