Letter to the Editor

By Staff
To the city of Madison and its businesses
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter on behalf of my son-in-law, his family and friends who believe he deserves a chance at a long and healthy life.
His name is Jeff McKleroy, a 42-year-old resident of Madison. He has been married for 23 years to his wife Kelly. They have one child, Jessica, 17, who is a senior at Bob Jones High School. They are members of Trinity Baptist Church in Madison.
Jeff had been diagnosed with a life threatening liver disease. Fortunately, there was a surgery that radically prolonged his life. Gary Lambert Sr., a Huntsville resident and the former brother-in-law of Jeff, donated 60 percent of his liver to Jeff. He was fortunate to have received the living liver transplant on June 17 at the Medical College of Virginia.
Although Jeff's insurance covered the majority of the transplant costs, his portion of the deductibles – 20 percent – is approximately $100,000.
A group of Jeff's friends and family are working in conjunction with the National Foundation for Transplants to raise the out-of-pocket expenses that he and his family face. NFT is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, which assists transplant patients nationwide in raising funds for the surgery and aftercare.
NFT's involvement ensures that your contributions are tax deductible and will be used solely for the purpose of helping with Jeff's medical expenses.
How can the community help? Your donation, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and will help to provide the support that is desperately needed now. Every dollar donated will bring us closer to providing the financial support that can give peace of mind to Jeff and his family.
Checks should be made payable to "National Foundation for Transplants" with the notation that it is for the Jeff McKleroy Fund. Donations may also be made using your MasterCard, Visa or American Express card.
Secure on-line donations may be made at www.transplants.org.
Please let your donations be led from your heart. It is tax deductible and NFT will provide a receipt for tax reporting purposes on any contribution of $25 or more. Additional verification from NFT regarding our fund raising campaign may be obtained by calling 1-8900-489-3863.
Thanks you for your consideration and support.
Sincerely, Jimmie Lee Sanders
Madison, Ala.
