Madison Greenway &Trails (MG&T), a local non-profit, all-volunteer organization is beginning to implement the city of Madison's plan to create a network of greenways and trails around Madison.
The organization will conduct a public presentation of the city's Master Greenway plan on "Earth Day", Tuesday, April 22 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Madison City Hall.
Also, the Land Trust of Huntsville and North Alabama will provide an overview of their Greenprint for Growth Plan in Madison County as part of the MG&T meeting. The Madison Growth Commission will convene a meeting, beginning at 7 p.m., also at city hall.
The Madison Greenway &Trails organization seeks community involvement and volunteers. Allison Wheeler, president of the organization, said the organization has been working with the city of Madison, which supports the MG&T effort.
"We want to secure and preserve public access to land required for the greenway and trails network and we want to facilitate the preservation and restoration of natural areas and resources which are connected to the greenway and trails network," Wheeler said. "Our presentation Tuesday night is also intended to attract new members and present opportunities for volunteers."
A MG&T hike will occur at Rainbow Mountain on Sunday, April 27 at 2 p.m. Those interested are invited to hike along.
For more information about the MG&T organization, call Allison Wheeler at 721-0556. MG&T's web site is at: http://MadisonGreenways.org.
