Local students honored at Calhoun

Several Madison residents were among those recognized at Calhoun Community College’s 40th annual Honors Day program as members of the top 10 students at the school.
Named to that list were:
Dan Kim is a business management/accounting major from Madison.
He serves as a co-head of the Calhoun Warhawk ambassadors, vice president of service for Phi Theta Kappa, and is also the founder and president of the Calhoun Disaster Awareness Club.
Kim is one of only two Calhoun students nominated for the All-USA Academic Team this year. He is active in his community through involvement in his church as a worship leader and youth guidance counselor and also through his volunteerism with the American Red Cross. His goal is to obtain his bachelor’s degree in business and become a hospital administrator to work in health care management. His GPA is 3.9.
Matthew Rodriguez is a pre-engineering major from Madison. He
serves as vice president of leadership for Phi Theta Kappa, and is a member of Sigma Kappa Delta. Rodriguez has attended and will be attending several regional conventions as a representative for Phi Theta Kappa.
He is active in his community through several organizations and events, which include serving as a social skills mentor for the Autism Society of North Alabama. His goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and eventually obtain his master’s degree in engineering.
He wants to utilize his technical expertise and communication skills to solve complex computing problems. His GPA is 3.6.
Ruby Sakyi-Addo is a biology major from Madison. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Kappa Delta. She is active in her community through volunteering every week at Huntsville Hospital and also volunteers to read to elementary and middle school children in special education classes.
Her career goal is to become a doctor of osteopathy and practice family medicine. She plans to attend Athens State University and then apply to an osteopathic medical school. Her GPA is 3.8.
