Sandra Rowe; Sept. 19, 2010

Sandra Helen Cantor Rowe, 88, passed away in her home in Madison on Sunday, Sept. 19 surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Rowe was raised in New York and graduated from the University of Georgia, which she attended with her husband following her service in the Marine Corps. During World War II, she assembled airplanes and left the service as a master sergeant.

Mrs. Rowe was a dedicated elementary school teacher for most of her adult career, teaching first grade for many years at Randolph School. Mrs. Rowe was passionate about art and was active in teaching at the Madison Senior Center, even as her frailty continued.

Mrs. Rowe was a dedicated Episcopalian (Anglican) and enjoyed the support, comfort and guidance from this clergy and community.

Mrs. Rowe is survived by three sons, Gregory, Stanton and Patrick Rowe; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two loving sisters, Evelyn Sturza and Rhea Goodman.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at Valhalla Funeral Home.
